The Barnstable Town Meeting voted on May 15, 1985 to petition the Legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to allow voluntary contributions to be made to a Scholarship Fund to provide financial aid to Barnstable residents in accordance with criteria determined by a Scholarship Committee. The taxpayers of Barnstable may voluntarily donate through a voluntary check-off on the real estate tax bill. The petition became law as Chapter 267 of the Acts of 1985. The first donations were received based upon the Fiscal 1986 tax bills. The Scholarship Committee has met and determined that it will award several scholarships, no later than May 31st to qualified applicants. Scholarships will be given in varying amounts, not to exceed $1,000. Interested applicants should seek an application from the Office of the Town Manager. Complete and return the application to the Town Manager's Office no later than March 12th.
